English Literature has Done the Judicium Thesis for 2020 Batch

Monday, August 5, the English Literature study program held a judicium thesis for the 2020 batch of students. In this year’s judicium, 36 English Literature students took part in the series of processes.

One of English Literature student, Erna Rosyda, in preparation for the judicium thesis, she did not prepare anything other than facing the hectic gathering of the necessary documents. “I prepared myself mentally because I was nervous waiting for the decision whether I passed or not.”

Erna also added that she did not expect to reach this point. Erna felt relieved because there were many things that had to be done through during the 4 years. Such as joining organizations, competitions, projects, doing assignments, and trying to maintain grades every semester.

“I’m proud of myself, also proud of my friends that has through this together from the beginning to the ending. Finally I reach this point according to my expectations and I feel satisfied with the score that I get,” she said.

According to Dimas Syam Nugraha, also one of class of 2024, he felt a little disappointed about this judicium thesis. This is because he did not get the results that he wanted.

“Although the result, I still feel very happy because I have reached this position. To achieve it I had to go through various processes. This is the result of my own hard work and being able to graduate as a bachelor of English Literature,” Dimas said.

For the research, Dimas studied the type of satirical/sarcasm language in a mobile legend e-sport community. The research sources came from satirical language used in comments on a revival TV account’s social media posts. The purpose of this research is for people to know that satirical language also exists on social media. Understanding the types of satire reduces debates that could harm the party affected by the sarcasm.

Impression of being English Literature Students at IPB Cirebon

The impression of being an English literature student according to Dimas is that he can improve his English skills. During college, Dimas became a student who actively participated in organizations such as ELSA. He was also trusted as the head of Invada Broadcast for 2 periods. Therefore, Dimas was able to improve his public speaking skills and develop his interest in videography.

While according to Erna, the most memorable experience during college was being active in both academic and non-academic activities. The most memorable for her was when she won the National Story Telling competition. “I try to do my best to make my campus and myself proud. Although there are many competitors, from famous campuses. I am proud to be able to compete with great people from famous campuses.”

Dimas gave a message to the juniors to expand their relationships and become active students. “Because in my opinion, going to college just to gain knowledge is not enough. Expand your relationships with fellow students and lecturers. because it will be very helpful in the future.”

“My hope for IPB Cirebon, hopefully in the future it can continue to develop better than now. Both in terms of curriculum, teachers, staff, and environment and students,” said Erna. She also hopes that IPB Cirebon can create a comfortable environment, so that it can create quality students in the future. (elv)
