English Literature of IPB Cirebon has created a new achievement. On the 1st of August 2024, Ivan Yuliyanto, English Literature student of IPB Cirebon, become a second winner of news anchor competition that held by National English Competition.

For this competition, Ivan did some preparation for his voice. Such as avoid eat oily food and any ice drink for a month. Ivan also prepare for the news material. The prepare the theme of the news. There are three provisions of the theme. The first theme is general international news, national political news, national entertainment or sports. “I also prepare how I speak, read, and regulate intonation when delivering the news,” his said.

“In selecting news topics, I consulted with Mr. Budi,” said Ivan.

For the selection of news material to be delivered, Ivan prepared 3 news according to the prepared theme. Then the topics were submitted to Mr. Budi to be assessed whether or not they were worthy of being selected as competition material.

News Anchor Competition Challenges

Ivan said that in preparing for this competition, he faced challenges. This was the first competition that Ivan had participated in, and this competition was national in scale. Various students from all over Indonesia participated in this competition, so at first, Ivan was pessimistic about winning. But with the support of his family, friends, and lecturers, he regained his confidence. When they announced the winner of the news anchor competition, Ivan was surprised to learn that he had secured second place.

“Honestly, I did not expect it because there were competitors that I thought were very tough from other campuses,” said Ivan.

For students who want to join the news anchor competition, Ivan has some tips. The first is to watch international news often. This is to train your listening and pay attention to how the news anchor speaks. For this, Ivan has a role model, namely David Muir. With this, it is hoped that many IPB Cirebon English literature students can follow in Ivan’s footsteps. (elv)
